Things to do near our Dordogne cottages

Golf – there is an 18 hole course a 20 minutes drive away complete with driving range, practice putting green and restaurant. Green fees vary depending on the time of year.  Website link

Canoeing on the River Dronne BrantômeCanoing – There are a lot of places to canoe, nearest to us is canoeing on the Dronne at Renamon, you can choose how far you want to go from a couple of hours to whole day trips. Further south you can canoe on the Dordogne.    Website link.

Road bike and mountain bike trails near our dordogne gitesCycling – For both road & mountain bikers .

There are 100’s of miles of country lanes in the area most of which have very little traffic. Or if you like off road cycling there are bridle ways and footpaths. At Montagrier about 5 minute drive there is a VTT Centre / Mountain Bike Centre with different tracks ranging from easy through to expert. You can hire bikes here as well. Website link.

Nearest beach to our Dordogne gites is BiscarosseBeaches & Surfing – the nearest surfing is at Biscarosse about a 2 hour drive away, with miles of deserted beaches. Also just about 2 hours away is a site well worth seeing at Archachon – it’s the Dune de Pilat, the biggest sand dune in Europe!

Fishing – The Dordogne is a great place for fishing. The river Dronne has roach, bream, barbel, trout. There are specialist carp/trout lakes. You need a permit to fish, permits are either category 1 for rivers and lakes with game fish such as trout or category 2 for the rest. There is a 2 week permit you can buy specially aimed at tourists.

Lots of footpaths and randonees on the Dordogne for walkersWalking – There are hundreds of miles of randonees ( footpaths ) in the area with one passing just at the bottom of our drive. Maps can be bought showing their location. See my walking blog – walks around La Treille

Lac Jemaye with sandy beach in the DordogneLake/river beaches – Most villages that have a river passing through them have their own river beach.  Nearby Tocane, Lisle & Renamon have them.  At Renamon you can hire canoes and there is a bar restaurant throughout the summer.  Bands play here on most Fridays and Saturday evenings. About 35 minutes away is Lac Jemaye (Large Lake) with sandy beach, children’s play grounds, volley ball pitch, cycling/walking tracks, several restaurants a pontoon you can swim out to and dive off. Throughout the summer months there are life guards and the water is sectioned off into areas of various depths. You can also fish here the lake is stocked with large carp.

Wine Tasting - Just an hours drive to some of the finest vineyards in the world – Bordeaux, St Emilion, Monbazillac, Bergerac and many more. There are numerous caves in the region where you can try the local wines, many people visit the region expressly to sample the wines, and such a visit usually includes the Chateau at Monbazillac, and several of the internationally renowned caves around St Emilion.

Tennis – Almost every village has there own tennis courts, the nearest to us is at Tocane, a 5 minute drive.

Quad biking – There are several places where you can ride quad bikes. Whole days, half days or hourly.

Water skiing – At the lake Rouffiac near Thiviers ( about 1 hours drive ) there is a cable water skiing centre. Costs are 15€ for 1 hour and include the hire of equipment.

Windsurfing – You can hire wind surfers at the Lake La Jemaye & Rouffiac lake.
